Some of California’s native flowers are so small they can easily be overlooked. Yet within their tiny forms lies a quiet beauty waiting to be seen and felt. As a watercolor painter, my desire is not simply to illustrate these flowers, but to give them a “voice” drawn from an emotional place. I hope this approach helps unfamiliar viewers become more aware of these remarkable plants—perhaps even to know them by name.
I also hope it inspires other artists to explore California’s native flowers in their own unique ways. To me, that would be the ultimate tribute to our state’s distinct and diverse beauty.
