Some of California’s native flowers are small that they may hardly be noticed when walked by. Yet, within their tiny form, there is a beauty waiting to be seen and felt. My desire, as a watercolor painter is to portray these flowers less in an illustrative way and instead to give them a “voice” from an emotional reference. My hope is that this might help the unfamiliar viewer to gain more awareness; for these flowering plants to become household names. I also hope to add inspiration for other artists to portray California native flowers in other ways. To me, this would be the ultimate tribute to our state’s distinct and diverse beauty.
